“And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.”
The old covenant called for many sacrifices for all sorts of things. The book of Leviticus names one after another. The sacrifices were tokens of the real sacrifice that would come in the form of the Christ. Over and over, they were offered, but they lacked the true ability to remove sins forever. Every time they were offered, they reminded the people and the priest that sins were still be counted by God. The major difference in the two priesthoods and the two classes of sacrifice is in their lasting qualities. Both sacrifice and priesthood of the Messiah (Christ) were eternal.
It is difficult for the believer to accept that his or her sins are not counted anymore if they have been washed in the blood of Jesus. “There is, therefore, now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
Task for Today: Believe the words of Jesus and believe the words of His apostle Paul. Belief leads to repentance, and repentance leads to baptism, and baptism puts you in Christ. Those in Christ have total forgiveness for sin as long as they stay in Him. The evil one cannot condemn you if you are in Christ.
