Hebrews 10:12

“But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God…”

This verse and the previous one are obvious comparisons of how salvation was handled under the two covenants. The book of Hebrews is all about the superiority of the new covenant and the covenant giver. Comparison one is about the posture of the high priest. Under the old covenant, the priest is pictured as standing while Jesus is pictured as sitting at the right hand of God. The priest is seen as standing because he must continue to offer sacrifices on a daily bases, day after day, and year after year. Over and over again, the same sacrifices for the same kinds of sins. Jesus is seen as sitting in the Holy Place because His work as high priest is finished. His sacrifice is a one time for all time one. Every human from Adam on is covered by the blood of the Lamb of God, His only begotten Son.  The old covenant priests offered multiple sacrifices. All sorts of animals and other things were offered. The new covenant priest offered one sacrifice, His own blood.

Task for Today: Claim the blood of Jesus. Be washed in His blood and have your sins completely forgiven and forgotten by the Judge of all the Earth. Do what Paul was told to do. Your situation and his are the same. Like the rest of the world, the two of you are guilty of sins against God. What was he told to do? “And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.” (Acts 22:16) God’s words to Paul and to all who would take advantage of the sacrifice of the Christ. Why do you wait?
