This is not about snacking, or grabbing a quick bite. Its not about getting up in the night and sneaking something out of the fridge. I think “feed” in this use carries with it the idea of a steady diet. Meal after meal, day after day, devouring the message of Jesus, the messenger of God.
I’m asking you to think about your eating habits here in regards to the true manna from heaven. Feeding on the word is feeding on Jesus. He is the living word. Those who eat of him will never be hungry. What food do you desire? What is your favorite meal? Peter thinks a baby’s favorite food is milk. Look at what he tells Christians, 1 Peter 2:2-3 “..like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. (NASU)
Babies long for milk, they will even cry if they don’t get it. We can go days without the pure milk of the word and never shed a tear. We don’t hunger for the real food, do we? What if there was a famine? A famine of the word. If the bible suddenly was taken away, would you miss it? Would you find something else to read instead?
What other food can sustain your present life like the word of God? What other food can feed your soul? What dish can compare to the living word of God? Why are we not hungry for it?
Abide in Jesus and feed on his word. Sounds like a good plan for today.
