Comments on James

Chapter 4, Verse 2 “You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.”

This is a harsh statement being made by James. How far from heavenly wisdom has one gone that unfulfilled desire can lead to murder? How does one fall so far as to value anything in this world more than another’s life? There are two possible outcomes to unsatisfied coveting. One denies the coveting, the other demands that the coveting be fulfilled.

Consider that we serve a God who delights in giving us good gifts. Baskets full and overflowing. Consider that we serve a God who wants us to be happy and thus provides a means for fulfilling our needs. One problem that earthly wisdom brings is that we seek to solve our unfulfilled desires ourselves rather than ask God. God will provide our every need.

Task for Today: What do you need that you don’t have? My guess is that the list is short. Solution: ask God for what you need. He loves you and loves giving to you. God desires to open the windows of heaven and rain blessings down upon you. No need to fight and quarrel since God gives freely.
