Comments on Verses from Prophets

Habakkuk 2:4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith (faithfulness).”

Habakkuk is discussing his complaint against God and God is answering him. Habakkuk surely knows there are two kinds of people he is working with. There are those who live by their own rule and there are those who live by being faithful to God and His words. Habakkuk wonders why God allows wickedness and wicked people. His view of what’s happening is that God is unconcerned about the evil that is occurring among the people. He thinks God is silent about wrongs that he, Habakkuk, sees.

God answers Habakkuk and tells him to make sure the answer is written plainly. It is an important point that God makes and He wants to make sure Habakkuk and all righteous people hear it. Even today, we who are faithful need to listen to the answer God gives Habakkuk. The vision waits for the appointed time, God tells him. It is hastening to its end even if it seems slow to you, Habakkuk. Wait for it. It will come and it will not be delayed. It, like all things, are in God’s control and evil and wrong will not slow down the coming wrath nor will they avoid it.

God is patient and longsuffering and gives second chances but make no mistake the Day of Judgment is coming and nothing can stop it. What will follow is a list of woes for those who have practiced the wrongs Habakkuk is talking about. Make no mistake, Habakkuk’s of the world, God rules and He will bring vengeance upon His enemies in due time.

Task for Today: Do not worry about the puffed-up. Be concerned about your faithfulness. The unfaithful will perish but the faithful will live. Leave the punishment of evil to God. Concentrate on your personal walk with the Lord. In the eye of the storm, there is quiet. Abide there with God.
