“Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own…”
Not only was the place where Christ took the sacrifice much different than that of the old priesthood, but the blood He took there was totally different. The high priest of the old covenant had to perform this salvation ritual every year, year after year. Jesus, as the high priest of the new covenant, performed this salvation act one time and that one time stands forever, reaching backward as well as forward.
Jesus’ death and blood offered as the propitiation for the sins of the world was a one-time thing in the middle of history. It will not be repeated. It was not done in a Jewish temple but rather outside the city so that it could be for every man. The offering of that sacrifice (death) and blood was not made here on earth but in heaven in the true holy of holies. Since Jesus could only die once His death had to stand for all time. Jesus took His own blood, becoming at once both sacrifice and offerer of the sacrifice.
Task for Today: Are you trusting in the blood of Jesus? Are you accepting Him as the one who can save you from sin? Choose today whom you will follow. Allow Him to cleanse you in His blood as He washes your sins away in baptism. If you haven’t submitted to His will in that regard, please do so today.
