“And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship.”
We’re beginning to get the picture, aren’t we? Blood was needed to ratify the covenant and that blood was used on everything and everyone. That sprinkling of blood signified to the people that God was setting them and their worship aside from the rest of the world. They would begin their new adventure with God with all the old things cleansed by blood and accepted as pure in God’s sight.
In much the same way, the new covenant talks about the old man and the new man. The old man must die to the past and be cleansed in the blood of Jesus so that he can live in the future. Their bodies were sprinkled with blood, but under the new covenant, our hearts (conscience) were sprinkled with the blood of Jesus. Everything needed for us to live in the new covenant has been cleansed and purified by the blood of Jesus.
Task for Today: Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin. Do you believe that? If you do then the task before you today is deciding which blood you wish to be applied to you. Do you seek the blood of calves and goats which will help you live under the old covenant? Or, do you seek the blood of Jesus that will cause you to live under the new? Remember that the new has better promises. Under the old, you would be promised a land but under the new, you have a promise of heaven. Which are you going to choose today? Has your heart been cleansed by the blood? Have you been buried in baptism where that blood can wash away your sins and present you new and holy before God?
