“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
God tells Jeremiah that the new covenant He will make after a certain time passes is vitally different in regards to where and how it is written. The first covenant was written on stone and paper. Many memorized its words but did not change their hearts. They knew its requirements but failed to do them. One of the major parts of this covenant was the necessary completion of circumcision. This circumcision was outward and should have made an inward connection but it did not in every case. These people were Jews outwardly, not inwardly.
The new covenant would be different in that the laws of the covenant would bypass stone and paper and begin in the thinking part of man. The promises of this covenant and its conditions had to be not just understood but believed. Circumcision would not be in the flesh but take place in the inward part of mankind.
Task for Today: Come under the new covenant, allow the word to live in you and be circumcised in your heart. Let God be your God and allow yourself to be His person. This is not about what you know but about what you believe to the point of trusting your eternal salvation with God’s covenant.
