“Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.”
The author continues to make his comparison of the former priesthood and its high priest and the superior priesthood and high priest of Jesus. He is ready at last to make his point. He has spent considerable space delineating the various superior features of the priesthood like Melchizedek’s. Also in this explanation, is the fact that the new priesthood and its high priest is a result of a new covenant. As we saw earlier, the priesthood of the Ten Commandments is passe. The Ten Commandments have been canceled and with them the priesthood they established.
We now have this new high priest, and he is working his priestly duties in the presence of the Majestic God in His most holy place. This high priest combines two essential roles, just as Melchizedek did. He is not only the high priest, but He is the King at the right hand of God. This high priest has taken the final sacrifice into the throne room of God and offered it for humanity. He sits at God’s right hand to rule the kingdom of God and constantly make intercession for His kingdom.
Task for Today: A great time to praise God for His great gift of high priest and king. A time to praise the Son of God for His willingness to pay for our sins and offer His own blood on our behalf. We have such a high priest.
