Hebrews 7:21

“but this one was made a  priest with an oath by the one who said to him, ‘The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever.’’”

The previous priests were not confirmed with an oath, but this one, Jesus, was confirmed by an oath. In the Hebrew, understanding the presence of an oath makes the statement as firm as is possible. This would be admissible in court. It would stand any scrutiny. God makes it plain that Jesus is now the priest for all the ages.

The oath was administered by God, who did not need to make an oath since He cannot bear false testimony. The Jews understood this as well. So why did God give an oath? Why did he swear as to the validity of His decision to make Jesus a Melchizedecan priest? Even those who came along not having the Jewish experience would be assured that the priesthood of Jesus was guaranteed.

Task for Today: What do you need for absolute truth? The oath of God is more secure. Jesus is God’s eternal high priest. Make your sacrifice through Him.
