“So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,”
Make no mistake; the author is not suggesting that God needed to make an oath to ensure that He kept His word. The reason God swore an oath on Himself was to make sure mankind knew without a doubt that God would keep His promise. We liked buying things that come with a guarantee. We feel protected, safer. Although I have been told that a guarantee is only as good as the people who make it.
That being true, then this guarantee is ironclad. It cannot be overturned or dismissed in any court of the land. Amazing. In spite of such a guarantee, people are still skeptical. They rely on God for the air they breathe and the food they eat but fail to trust His unseeable promises. This is why Jesus is concerned about our faith. When the Son returns will He find faith on the earth?
Task for Today: Make it personal. Let’s forget the world in general. We know how they think. What about you? Do you believe each and every one of His promises? Do you trust the guarantee you’ve been given? If the answer is yes, then, by all means, live as if the promise was already realized.
