Hebrews 3:3

“For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.”

Lots of deep thoughts in this verse I think. To the Hebrews, Moses was a great man and much revered in their religious thinking. He appeared with Jesus on the mount of transfiguration and the reaction of Peter on that occasion shows us what the Jews thought of Moses. But he was a man and as a man was with sin. Jesus created man and when He took on the nature of man He did not sin. Major difference between the two.

Moses was a servant in God’s house but he was also the leader of God’s house. He was the go-between God and Israel. However, he was limited in this role as he was subject to the same sins as the rest of Israel was. He served as a leader in God’s house but he was not the builder of the house. He rescued the house from Egypt but not by his own power or will. He needed his brother’s help as well as God’s.

Jesus, on the other hand, was a servant, leader, and builder of the house. Because He was responsible for the New Israel He deserved more glory. Jesus led New Israel out of bondage but not like Moses. Jesus needed no help from any man and He is God. God destroyed the Egyptians in the Red Sea not Moses but Jesus destroyed the Egypt of death by His victory over death.

Task for Today: Give Jesus the glory He is due. You can be a part of the New Israel, the true house of God, the one built by God’s Son. Like the Hebrews who received this letter, you must turn all your attention to the true leader of God’s house. Have you given your life to Him? If not, I encourage you to do so today. Obey His word, receive salvation and be a part of His great house.
