“So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” (Gal. 4:7)

Remember, slavery here referred to the role of the guardian who prevented the heir from obtaining his inheritance until the time was finished. That’s how the law worked. That’s how sin worked. That was the way of the elements of this world and the ruler of darkness.

But, slavery is over. Why go back to being a slave without an inheritance when you can be the master’s son and inherit everything? What the Galatians were doing in returning to the law through circumcision was returning to the slavery of sin. The law came to point out sin. Jesus came to rescue from sin.

Be a slave or be a son. That should be a give-me.  As a slave you get nothing but as a son, you have access to it all. If you are a son then God is your father and if God is your father then all He owns is also yours. All the spiritual blessings are gifted to the Sons of God. They begin with forgiveness of sins and continue with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The blood of Jesus in an ever cleansing flow washes over you. Heaven becomes your new home and death disappears from your vocabulary.

Task for Today: Shout hallelujah! All are home free in Christ. Sins are gone and a new life in the Spirit awaits. Claim your salvation. Welcome the Spirit into your heart. Count your blessings, they are as the sands of the shore and the stars of heaven. Live free, enslaved no more. As M. L. King, Jr. said, “Free at last, free at last…”
