Jesus and God, the Same
Jude 25, “…to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”
This is one of the most profound verses in the New Testament. It clears up any questions about who Jesus was and is. It asserts the divinity of Jesus and places Him as a part of God. Jesus is God, the only God. He was, Jude says, in that role before time, present time and the future.
Some teach that Jesus was just a man and went back to heaven as a man and will return to Jerusalem as a man where He will rule as a man. Jude disagrees. Jesus also disagrees as He knew who He was. He knew He was the Word and He knew He was God. He changed forms from the form of God to the form of man but when He went back to heaven to sit next to the Father, He retook His godly form. He talks about it in his prayer in the gospel of John. It is a plain statement and to the point. “And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” John 17:5
Peter says in his great sermon on Pentecost that Jesus is exalted at the right hand of God. God made Him Lord and Christ. God did what Jesus asked of Him in His prayer in John.
Task for Today: When you worship Jesus, remember that He is God not a man. He will judge you as God, not a man. He rules over His kingdom as God, not a man.
