This passage is a great place to learn about the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian. The work of the Spirit is to set Christians free from the law of sin and death. The Spirit brings a new law of life through the work of Jesus. When the Christian is willing to let go and let God the Spirit controlled life can bring peace to that person’s life.
Being led by the Spirit is to be the children of God. No longer slaves but free. By turning one’s life over to the Spirit we avoid allowing the world to control us. Being led by the Spirit allows us to set our minds on spiritual things rather than things of the earth. It also allows us to see that the Spirit is in all things. The Christian does not divide the world into sectors, one belonging to God and one that doesn’t. The Christian through the indwelling of the Spirit sees all things as spiritual rather than some designated things, like Sunday.
There is a secular world, but it should be a foreign country to children of God. The Spirit led Christian not only views his worship as spiritual but his work and his play. He lives in a Spirit controlled world having been removed from the world of Satan. The Christian by benefit of the Spirit is free from the secular world and is brought into the spiritual world of life in Christ.
