Comments on Ephesians

Chapter 2, Verse 17 “And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.”

The coming of Jesus brought the opportunity of peace with God for all mankind. This total peace had not been available to Israel due to their inability to keep all of the law. It had not been available to the Gentile world either since they were alienated from God without hope for the world to come.

While it is true that the death of Jesus abolished the Law that separated Jew and Gentile its real power was the opening of a way to God through the gift of the Spirit by Jesus.

Now, both Jews and Gentiles, truly all people on the earth, have access to God and His forgiveness and thus the promise of life eternal.

Task for Today: Today is a good time to claim your peace with God and mankind. Claiming this peace is as easy as obeying the gospel. Believe the gospel, repent of your sins, confess that Jesus is Lord, and be buried in the watery grave of baptism. When you have obeyed that good news Jesus will not only forgive your sins but also add you to His body, which is the church.
