Chapter 3, Verses 17-18 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
James’ list may remind you of Paul’s gifts of the Spirit and of course it is obvious that he is talking about the same idea that Paul is. James reminds us that those who make peace receive the fruit of righteousness. Heavenly wisdom promotes peace and with the peace all good things associated with mercy and goodness. The peacemakers shall be called the sons of God (Matt. 5:9).
Just think of the life style represented by the man controlled by the wisdom of God. The work of the Holy Spirit in such a person’s life is certain to produce good fruits and lives that are honest and sincere.
Task for Today: There is nothing in these two verses that is not to be desired, is there? Yet, so many of us miss the peace of Christ because we miss the wisdom of God. Do you seek wisdom? Assuming the answer is yes, what kind of wisdom are you actively seeking? The world offers its wisdom but it is a wisdom without peace. God’s wisdom is peaceable and provides a harvest of righteousness within that peace. Be a peacemaker today using the wisdom of God.
