Comments on James

Chapter 2, Verse 24 “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.”

Regardless of what many preachers and Bible teachers say, Christians are not saved by faith alone. To make that true you must make James a liar. Since James was inspired by the Holy Spirit, you are left with making Him a liar. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not advised.

James’ point is that a Christian is justified by two things, not one. The Christian in not justified by faith alone nor by works alone. James is arguing that you can’t be saved to the end by just faith any more than you can be by works.

Task for Today: Believe the word of God. Believe James. Reconcile the need of Christian work to accompany Christian faith. Remember, you cannot become a Christian by works; it is by faith as a gift of grace. And then remember, you cannot work out your salvation without works because faith without works is dead.
