Comments on James

Chapter 2, Verse 5 “Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?”

James is not implying that God only chose poor people from the world, but the fact is that the poor heard Him gladly. James may well allude to the idea that those who have little to lose when choosing Jesus may choose Him more easily. Even Jesus suggested that there was a difficulty in the rich entering the kingdom because of their self-reliance.

But one can be rich and live poor or be poor and live rich. It isn’t the riches that decides the difficulty, but how much one loves what he has, much or little.

Task for Today: Guard against the love of money in any of its forms. There are two kinds of treasures we can store up and two places to store them. Check your store house today. What’s in it? What do you care about the most? Things in this life or the life to come?
