Malachi 2:10 “Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?”

Here is a basic truth not easily recognized by mankind. It explains conflicts, cruelty, and genocide in the history of mankind. All members of the human race are brothers/sisters. Regardless of tongue, skin color, geographical location, or culture, the human race has but one great father who is the one great creator. How can we view ourselves as superior to others? How can we make one group inferior because of physical differences when we were all created from one pattern of likeness? We each bear the image of our creator which makes us kindred.

How do we explain Cain or Esau or the constant wars that have waged through the ages? How do we account for the faithfulness to each other? Perhaps John helps us with that when he says if we don’t love our brothers we don’t love God. If we don’t love and honor God then it is easy to be unfaithful to other humans. You can’t love God and hate His children. Does this mean that any sign of mistreatment of another human being is a direct affront to God? God says that this faithlessness is an abomination.

Task for Today: Is this a new way to view your prejudice? Do you find yourself profaning the covenant of brotherhood? Do you separate humans by any criteria other than good and evil? If so, then before the day is over, answer these two questions asked by the prophet. Don’t let the sunset with you profaning the covenant of brotherhood. No one can answer these two questions honestly and maintain prejudice.
