Zechariah 13:1 “On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.”
‘On that day’ is the prophets’ notice of when God would send the Messiah and make things right for his people. We have been hearing from prophet to prophet how amazing that day would be. When we read the New Testament story we are reminded of all the promises that the prophets gave us. This is an important one. Christians sing songs about the ‘fountain free.’
That fountain was a very outpouring of blood that came for the cleansing of our sins. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins and the blood of bulls and goats were not enough. It took the blood of the Messiah, given not taken, to pay the penalty of sin.
We are the new house of David and we have a new David like King. We are the New Jerusalem bought with the precious blood of the Lamb of God. The old Israel lost its salvation because of sin and rebellion against God. The New Israel is composed of those who have been washed in the blood of Jesus.
Task for Today: Are you washed in the blood? If not, do so today. The apostle Paul was told to arise and be baptized and wash away his sins. The ever-flowing fountain of blood is for you and me. Take advantage of it today. Let this be your own personal “on that day.”
