Comments on Verses from Prophets

Zechariah 7:13 “’As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear’ says the LORD of hosts,”

Here is a verse to contemplate carefully. Make no doubt about it, God is calling you. He will continue to call while there is time to respond. No matter how old you are or become God will not quit calling you. He wants you to be His child. But the day of calling will not last forever. That is why the scriptures use the term ‘Today’ in relationship to hearing His voice. The Israelites waited too long. When they finally realized the seriousness of their position they decided to call on God. But He responded to them as they did to Him.

There is a day coming when the call of God will end. When that day comes, it will be too late to answer His call and too late to call on Him. Those Israelites were foolish people, to say the least. Think about all God had done and was doing for them. They were not thankful and they turned to idols, to false gods. We see it all around us today. In spite of the goodness of God, the world, like those Jews, ignores the giver and squanders the gifts. Eyes and ears are closed and God is either ignored or maligned. I repeat, there is a day coming.

Task for Today: Listen for the call of God in your life. Answer it immediately. Be a Samuel and respond, ‘Speak Lord, your servant is listening.’ Since we don’t know when the ‘day’ is coming we cannot prolong our answer. There may not be, as the song said, a more convenient day. He that has ears to hear should not only listen but respond.
