Micah 7:7 “But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.”
This verse comes at the end of a six verse lament over the state of wickedness in the world. The prophet, like Elijah, sees himself as the only faithful person left on the earth. “The godly has perished from the earth…” he says. This is a woe is me passage for sure. When we look around us in 2021, we might want to join Micah’s lament. Things are bad for sure. Evil is everywhere and we might begin to fear like Elijah and Micah.
But there is a big difference between the expectations of Elijah and Micah. Elijah wanted God to end it all, since he (Elijah) was all alone as a righteousness person and felt his own life threatened. Micah on the other hand is patiently waiting on God. Why is he doing that? Why doesn’t he give up and let the world go to hell, its chosen destination? He knows who is in charge, doesn’t he? “My God WILL hear me.” Later, Micah says that God will bring him to the light.
Task for Today: Okay, evil is everywhere. Perhaps it seems like there are no upright among mankind. I suspect that Micah was wrong just like Elijah was. There are a great many who have not bowed the knee or head to Baal. So today you can choose a prophet’s response. End it all or wait on the Lord. Hang on, you will see the light.
