Daniel 7:14 “And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is and everlasting dominion which shall not pass away and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”
This verse describes one like a son of man who came to the Ancient of Days. When he came to the Ancient of Days, the Ancient of Days (God the Father) gave him dominion over all the world and over the kingdom of God. This passage is speaking of the exaltation of Christ when He ascended to heaven as recorded in Acts. Jesus now is the ruler of the universe and the King of the Kingdom.
In a world where people were used to kingdoms rising and falling this everlasting dominion would be a surprising announcement. All earthly kingdoms were and are subject to destruction. They come and go like the years, falling from conquest and decay. The kingdom of heaven, consisting of the church of Jesus and the saints of the ages is everlasting and will endure beyond the time of earth. This was a lot of mystery to Belshazzar, king of Babylon but now we know that Daniel had the coming of the messiah and the establishment of His kingdom in mind.
Task for Today: Literature is full of stories of earthly kingdoms and their rise to power and dissension to ruin. We enjoy stories of the kings of old and their conquests but we know they all had one thing in common: they died and their kingdoms failed. Put your faith in the kingdom of God as established by Jesus while on this earth. Make Jesus your king and His kingdom your own. The church is part of that kingdom. Have you been added to the church? Believe, repent of your sin and be buried in the water of baptism and you will be added to the church and the kingdom.
