Jeremiah 25:8 “Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Because you have not obeyed my words…”
This book is not pleasant reading, and this part of the book is full of what God is going to do to the nations who have not listened to Him. You can read the chapters before this verse and the ones after and learn about the destruction of Israel and Judah. It has been and will be Jeremiah’s theme as he speaks to the leaders of the nations in the Fertile Crescent. This verse, however, gives the reason for the calamity God is going to bring to the land. It is the central problem of mankind from Eden to today.
I can’t help but think of the parallel of things all around us, like people being harmed by police because they don’t obey the officer’s commands. So many accidents on the streets and in homes because people don’t obey the rules. On a lighter note, how many people get paint on their hands testing the sign that says “wet paint?” Why do we resist obeying authorities in the world? It must be the same thing that causes us to resist obeying God. I can’t vouch for everything on earth, but I can where God is concerned. If you have any doubt about the results of failing to obey God, just read Jeremiah. It is not a happy book.
Task for Today: Practice obedience. Obey the law of the land and the law of natural things and mostly obey God’s word. Obeying God is the major test of your relationship with Him. Obey Him in all things all the time. It will be well with your soul. Disobedience on your part invites disaster.
