Isaiah
7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Ahaz, the king, did not want a sign from God, but God gave him one anyway. It was an impossible sign to the king, and so it has been for all generations since. It is a sign that went beyond knowledge, then and now. It is medically impossible, scientifically impossible, and therefore not believable.
No matter how this sign was viewed by Ahaz and his followers, it was still a sign that God would prevail over evil and eventually rescue His people. God’s promise is to be with His people, and He would do that through the son of the virgin. Eventually, God’s promise of Immanuel came to pass. His Son was born of a virgin and lived among men before dying for them that they might have the eternal promise of God.
Task for Today: Rejoice; Immanuel came and lived among mankind and rescued them from the penalty of sin. Have you accepted Him as your savior? If not, do so today. Act on your faith and be born again into the kingdom of God. Immanuel, God with us, lived on earth as a man long enough to demolish death and estrangement from God. Now, God wants you and me to live with Him, in His house, His world.
