“See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.”
The grace of God is offered to everyone. It is not true that God chooses to save some and rejects others based on some form of unknown election. Jesus is the great gift of God, and God gave that gift to every human being. Like all gifts, it can be rejected. God does not force Himself upon us, and He will not save us against our will. It is up to us to secure the gift of grace for ourselves and to encourage others to claim it as well.
It is also our responsibility to be peacemakers in the kingdom and, in so doing, prevent any root of bitterness from getting to the trouble stage. Churches have been damaged, even disbanded because of bitterness among the members. This cannot be. Sowers of peace cannot be a part of discord. We must in love and tenderness encourage peace in the church of our Lord. Even those who have accepted grace may become defiled if they do not live according to the word of God.
Task for Today: Do not ignore grace today. You can live on earth without it, but you cannot make it beyond the earth without it. It is free. It is a gift. It is for you. You must choose to accept the grace, and you do that by accepting Jesus and following his word.
