“By faith, he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.”
There is so much about this story that requires deep faith. Hardly anything about it related to experience. The Death Angel, who would single out the firstborn of each household, would seem like something from a horror story. And how would eating part of a lamb and unleavened bread keep such a terrible thing at bay? Who would have guessed that smearing lamb’s blood on a door frame would keep a killer of babies away?
It’s the same problem people have with the cross of Jesus and baptism into His name. It requires great faith to believe the story of redemption now just as it did then. Moses saw enough of God’s mighty hand to believe He could do what He said He would do. Moses had heard God say what He would do, and then Moses saw Him do it. The more difficult the task, the greater the faith.
Task for Today: Do you believe the stories of the Old Testament? Today, do you believe the blood of Jesus on the cross worked to keep the eternal death angel away from your door? You do that by faith. Today, acknowledge that you are under the blood of Jesus. He took your place. Praise Him for your Passover.
