“By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff.”
What did Jacob know when he blessed the two grandsons instead of the son? We look back and see the reality of what happened in the history of the nation of Israel. The blessings of Jacob all came to pass. But, how unusual that he switched from one method to another. I feel sure that all those sons wondered why the shift from son to grandson; after all, they had sons as well.
The mystery is not hard to unlock. We just read the first words of the verse. It was by faith. Faith comes from hearing the word of God. God had revealed this special situation to him, and Jacob believed God. Much had happened to him during his life. Things had not always been easy for him as an adult. We give him credit for sticking to the plan, and we rejoice to see how God worked the whole thing out.
Task for Today: You, like Jacob, have a chance to hear the word. You, like Jacob, have an opportunity to turn the hearing into faith. The more you ingest the word, the more your faith can grow. You have the winning formula, start big time today.
