“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
This is the third time our writer has encouraged the holding on of their faith to the Hebrews. Not only to hold on but to hold fast. He knows they need to be steadfast in this regard, and all his efforts have been aimed at giving them reason to do so. This verse gives us the best and most secure reason to hold fast we could possibly need. God will hold on fast to His commitment. Because He will, we should too.
The very foundation of faith is the firm conviction that God will and does keep His promises. God does not lie, cannot, because of His nature, lie. God is faithful in every relationship with mankind. We, as His people, can count on Him to do all He has said He would do. Because He does not waver, we should not waver either. We must come to Him in the sincere belief that He is the true God, and thus all things are under His control.
Task for Today: This is no time to be wishy-washy in our faith or conviction. This is no time to question the validity of God’s word. This is a day when we should step out in faith and acknowledge God and Christ as the rulers of the new kingdom of which we have been made a part. This is a day to forget the past (Old Covenant) and move on to the future (New Covenant).
