“For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.”
This is the conclusion you must reach after reading the first nine chapters of Hebrews. If you make this conclusion, then you have every reason to reject the law which provided the bulls and goats. The problem many have today is they want to reject the blood of bulls and goats but keep some parts of the law. Many want to keep the Sabbath as a holy day because it is a part of the law. Some take other parts of the Ten Commandments and insist that Jesus means for us to follow them. A quick look at His teaching would show that Jesus desired no such thing for His followers. He stayed in trouble with the Jewish leaders because He refused to follow their interpretation of the law.
Jesus was fond of saying, “You have heard…but I say.” In order to have the blood of Jesus rather than the blood of bulls and goats, the law had to be superseded. It was superseded with a new covenant. The covenant brought by the blood of Jesus. The Galatians’ letter makes this very clear (see my book on Galatians). In other words, the entire law was abolished and nailed to the cross of Jesus. The entire law. We have a new covenant written on our hearts by God, not on tablets of stone.
Task for Today: Reject the blood of bulls and goats and accept the blood of Jesus as the means of removing sins. While you are at it, reject the law as a law to you and use it for information (learning) only.
