“So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”

Christ is the offering. He offered Himself. God offered Him as Abraham would have Isaac. They did not slay Him, nor did they take His life against His will. Even in the garden, Jesus had to arrange His own arrest. He refused to resist the Jewish leaders and He did not defy the Roman governor. Even though Jesus had a vast army of superior warriors behind Him, He did not call them. He wanted the cross. He needed the cross to complete His earthly mission. All manner of escapes presented themselves to Him but He chose none of them.

His sacrifice was a onetime deal. Unlike the sacrifices, the Jews were used to Jesus did not need to be offered every year. As the true Lamb of God, one death was enough. Jesus as the sacrifice was sufficient for all mankind of every generation.

He came to earth once, and He died once but He will reappear at the end of time to take those whom He saved by his sacrifice to be with Him. They eagerly await His return because they know why He is returning and for whom He is returning.

Task for Today: Do you await the coming of Jesus? He’s not coming back to claim the earth but to destroy it and all the evil in it. Only those washed in the life-giving blood will be rescued from the utter destruction. Are you washed in the blood? Jesus has dealt with sin. Do you believe that? Put your faith in the one offered by God for your sins. Claim your victory in Jesus today. Before He returns.
