Hebrews 7:15

“This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek,”

Jesus is from the tribe of Judah, but that is only significant in the sense that Judah was the tribe of kings and not the tribe of priests. When Jesus was announced as the priest of the new people of God, he was announced not as a Levitical priest but as a Melchizedekian priest. So foreign was this idea to Jews that the writer of this letter had to go back into history and recover the identity of Melchizedek and the nature of his priesthood.

Melchizedek, you’ll recall, was a priest without priests in his family before him or after him. He was especially appointed for a historical period by God with no other requirements than God chose him.

Jesus fits that mold exactly. He was appointed by God though no one in his family had ever served as a priest. He would not be followed by another priest but was made a priest forever.

Task for Today: Without the house of Israel considering it, God prepared the way for a change of priesthoods. We see how it works. We need to accept His gift. His once and forever done gift. Who is your high priest? Please make it Jesus, the Melchizedekian type of priest.
