“So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, ‘You are my Son, today I have begotten you.”
Just as the Levitical high priest did not take the honor of high priest on his own but waited for God to call him, so Jesus also did not attempt to take the honor upon Himself. He was appointed by His father, God, who calls all high priests. Jesus came as a servant and as a servant would never consider exalting Himself above that status. He repeatedly said that He came to do the will of His father. He took no steps to elevate Himself above the position of a servant.
It was God who chose Jesus to be the great high priest of His new people. This makes the priesthood of Jesus (of which you as a Christian are part of) authentic. No other person may assume this position, and no one can be a priest of God unless he or she is a part of this tribe (family).
How lucky Christians are to have Jesus as our high priest. He has been appointed by God and is the superior high priest to all others. This high priest offered Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the people. The blood of this high priest was taken by Him into the very holy of holies and presented before God in our behalf.
Task for Today: Thank God for giving you such a wonderful high priest who knows all about you and intercedes daily for you. Thank Him for the blood of the cross your high priest, Jesus, took to the mercy seat. Thank Him for the forgiveness of all your sins and the gift of eternal life.
