Hebrews 4:10

“…for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.”

As we said earlier, God rested from His work of creation. Now He has promised a rest for His people. Some may think God is referencing works of righteousness, but that is not the case. The promised rest is a Sabbath rest or a rest from labor. The end of God’s work came at the completion of His creative effort. He ceased laboring in that regard. The promised rest for the children of God is also for when they cease their labor.

When do humans cease their labor on this earth? It is, of course, when they pass on to the next world. The new heavens and earth will not require the work of men. It is a spiritual paradise for spiritual people. All the former things that cause sweat of the brow will be gone forever. In the promised rest, the children of God will be at ease in Zion in an approved way. It is God’s reward for them. The writer of Revelation said in 14:13, “…that they may rest from their labors for their deeds follow them.”

Task for Today: Final rest is also eternal joy. Are you prepared for the joy of heaven? Have you been washed in the blood of the lamb? Today can be the day of your salvation if you will turn to Jesus and His word. “Whoever believes (the gospel) and is baptized will be saved.” (Mark 16:16) Do you believe the good news of Jesus? Do you trust the message of the good news? Have you submitted to baptism? The answer to these questions is important. The time to prepare for your eternal rest is now.
