Hebrews 4:6

“Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience,”

The invitation of God to enter His rest is still open. The fact that the Israel of the wilderness failed to enter doesn’t mean the rest has been canceled. The door to the rest is still open, and the same criteria that governed entrance are still in place. The former people who heard the good news did not obey the good news. Because of their disobedience, the way to the rest of God was closed to them.

The good news is still being preached today. The good news being preached today is that Jesus came to lead the way to the promised rest. In that good news as before, there are requirements for entering the rest. Just as the Israelites were required to trust and obey God, so are gospel recipients today. Obedience to the gospel will give us the right to enter heaven, and disobedience will shut heaven’s door.

Task for Today: It is so simple, and yet we are slow to understand and act. Are you interested in God’s rest? Then today is the time to act. Check out the gospel and see what the requirements are. Then obey. Trust God that He will deliver you and give you the rest. Believe in His Son and obey the Son’s commandments.
