“For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”
We put this verse with verse 16. Jesus helps those who trust and obey, and He does that well because of His suffering and temptation. Only one who has experienced life can empathize with those who live life. So Jesus came to earth and joined us, not as rich and privileged but as poor and lowly. He came a servant, not a king. He was thirsty and hungry and tired and homeless. He was despised and disdained and falsely accused. He was beaten and cursed and cruelly used.
He was tempted. Really. Just like us. The devil tried his hardest. Right up to the end, Satan tried to un-track Him. But Jesus was strong. He had to be strong and resist the temptation. Like for us, God made a way of escape, and Jesus took it. That is the big difference between the Son of God and the sons of God. Don’t think for a minute that the temptations were weak or that Jesus had it easy. It was real. Just like ours, real.
Task for Today: Experiencing temptation? Want some help? Come to Jesus. Ask Him to help you with the temptation, whatever it is. He knows all about temptation and He knows how to defeat it. He can help you. Go to Him. Do what He did. Find the exit door He provides.
