“For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,”
There is no doubt that the Hebrews author believes that Jesus came into the world as a flesh and blood creation just like the rest of humanity. Jesus and men all came through a natural birth process so they have that as a common origin. They both came from God and so they have that as a common origin. The physical nature of Jesus gives Him a close association with humans and thus He considers them His brothers. Angels are not His brethren as they are different beings. Jesus is both God and Man and so He has both a fleshly connection with humanity and a spiritual one as well.
The work of Jesus makes us holy and because we are holy we can be in God’s family. We are brothers and co-heirs with Jesus. We are not holy because of our works or the lack thereof. We are holy only because of the actions of Jesus who by His death set us apart from the world of sin.
Task for Today: Look in the mirror and say, “I’m sanctified by the blood of Jesus.” Remind yourself that you are a child of God and because of your sanctification you have an eternal inheritance. That should make your day brighter. Sing, “I’m saved, saved, saved.”
