“And again, when brings the firstborn into the world, he says, Let all God’s angels worship him.”
Another statement of the elevation of Jesus as God’s Son. Angels do not worship men; they worship that which is greater than them. Jesus was a man, but He was also God. It is the God part of Jesus that the Hebrew writer wants us to recognize. Before the book is completed, we will see the importance of this basic truth. Everything involving Jesus is greater than the old system precisely because Jesus is greater.
In the past, God spoke to men through men, but now God has sent His Son as the messenger. Jesus told a parable about the vineyard owner sending servants to no avail and then sending his son on the basis that the workers in the vineyard will pay more attention to the son since they neglected to hear the servants. This parable proved the unwillingness of Israel to listen to either the servant prophets or the servant Son.
The Hebrew writer is also making the point that even if Israel did not listen to the prophets God sent, they would surely listen to Angelic beings. This is true because Angels are higher than mere prophets. That being the case, mankind should listen to the Son because He is higher than mere angels.
Task for Today: If an angel from God appeared to you, would you pay attention to his words? If the answer is yes, then why would you not pay attention to the words of Jesus? Jesus was God in the flesh, and through the Holy Spirit, who is also God, we have the words that Jesus spoke. The words of Jesus are God speaking to us in these last days. Are you obeying these words? Do you know what the message of God was? Today would be a good time to examine it.
