“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways!” (Psalm 128:1)
All things come out well for those who fear God and obey his commands. It’s a constantly repeated promise from God and a repeated statement from His followers. What a wonderful thing the psalmist predicts, that you shall be blessed and it shall be well with you. How many people today would like such a promise. Good things happen to the man who fears the Lord.
This concept was constant in the Old Testament, and many references could be made to prove the point or to show the counterpoint. Some would reject the concept because they had seen a situation when it appeared that the promise was false. This may be because they have an unrealistic view of what being blessed means. In the psalm, it is expressed in the most general sense that can be easily understood by the culture it was presented to. However, we have to keep in mind that God has His own standard of good and blessed. Ultimately, the one who fears God and keeps his word will be blessed, if not in this short life then in the eternal life to come.
Task for Today: The task you need to work on today is not to evaluate the blessing that you presently have but to evaluate your fear and obedience in relation to the God of heaven. If we make sure of our part, we need have no worry about God fulfilling His. Just try Him and see for yourself.
