Of old, you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away…” (Psalm 102:25, 26)
The writer of this psalm understands two things that are important to know. One, God is the creator of heaven and earth which reminds us that they were brought into an eternal spiritual world as an addition. Two, God will not give heaven and earth eternity but will allow them to come to an end.
God is eternal, but heaven and earth are not. Man is. There is a fleshly Adam and a spiritual Adam. We have both natures. The real essence of mankind is eternal and will outlast this earth. That is why Jesus told His disciples that He was going to His eternal home to prepare a home for them. He knew that this one was doomed. It was created with an end in sight. God has a new dwelling place for man when heaven and earth are gone. Those who have made Him God will live in the new homemade by Jesus who also made the old one. Those who have not made Him their God will live in torment, having no God or home.
Task for Today: Don’t set your hopes on this earth not for the now, and not for the future. It will not survive eternity as it carries with it the seed of death. It will not rise out of the ashes like Phoenix and live again. Set your hope on the home eternal in the heavens being prepared for you by your savior.
