“For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” (Psalm 100:5)
Hard to choose one verse from this psalm. The last verse sums up so much of other psalms. The love of God, yea, the steadfast love of God is paramount to understanding who God really is. So many chose to fear God which came from a misunderstanding of who God is and what He wants from the world.
This verse reminds us of the long term commitment God has made to us in spite of our actions to the contrary of His will. It reminds us of His faithfulness to us in spite of our lack of faithfulness to Him. Years turn in to centuries and the centuries mount up to an astonishing number and man does little to improve his own relationship with God. Man turns his back on God, but God is still there. Man closes his ears to God, but God is still there. Man shuts his heart to God, but God is still there. God is the God who stays.
This verse reminds us of the very nature of God. It is goodness. God is good. He is always good. His goodness is pervasive in our lives. We go up and down, but He stays firm in His commitment to us. Man comes and goes but God is ever present and always the same. He is good.
Task for Today: Enter the presence of God with thanksgiving and praise, giving thanks to Him and bless His name. Serve Him with a glad heart and come before Him with a song on your lips and in your heart. The Lord is good! How fortunate you are today that you serve a “good” God.
