“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” (Psalm 85:6)
This is what happens when people turn away from God. This cry is a result of the idolatry of Israel and Judah. God had rescued them many times, and each time they turned their backs on Him. They now find themselves under the heavy hand of God. They want God to change His reaction to their idolatry and neglect. Take your anger away God, is the call. Why are they so bold?
It is because they know who God is and what God is like even as they know themselves. God loves His people, and because He does, He is desirous of their salvation. They know God will give good gifts in spite of their behavior. God is forgiving. God is forgiving. The psalmist says, “He will speak peace to his people to his saints.”
He also warns against the people turning back to their folly. Resisting God is folly as is rebellion. Disaster awaits folly. I like verse ten of this psalm. “Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other.” This is God. In spite of our rebellion, God wants to give us righteousness and peace. His steadfast love never fails, and His faithfulness endures forever.
Task for Today: Whatever your state before God understand that He wants peace with you. He will forgive you, and He will revive you and restore you to righteousness. Lay aside the sin that holds you back and come to God for reinstatement. God wants you to know salvation. It is up to you.
