Through the Spirit

“For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.” (Gal. 5:5)

Paul now expresses how they should be doing in their walk. One of the major differences in following Christ rather than law is the gift of the Holy Spirit. We supply faith and God supplies the Holy Spirit and as long as we are living with that combination we have a hope of righteousness. Grace will be ours. So many of us ignore the Spirit and try to walk by faith alone. The greatest gift Christ gave his disciples was the Spirit. He even said they would be better off when the Spirit came.

The Spirit is our comforter and our guide. He lives in us and knows us better than we know ourselves.  When we combine our faith in Christ as God’s Son and the fellowship of the Spirit we have the formula for staying the course. Faith and Spirit allow us to walk in the light as Christ is in the light. That fellowship of our faith, the Spirit and Jesus keep the blood of Christ flowing for our sins. When we walk this way we cannot fail.

When we leave the Spirit we leave Christ. If we do that we will also lose our faith and when we lose faith we will be in danger of losing grace. We cannot produce righteousness. It comes to us as a further gift of God and is based on our following Him by saving faith. Christ in us through His Spirit is our only hope of glory.

Task for Today: Stay in contact with the Spirit. Talk to the Spirit, welcome Him into your inner life. Allow Him to be in control of your thoughts and life. Through faith in Christ, accept the Spirit’s lead. Do nothing without His approval. Righteousness will be yours forever.
