One Spirit

“There is one body and one Spirit; just as also you were called in one hope of your calling.” (Eph. 4:4)

There is one body, and that body is indwelled by one Spirit. It is the Spirit that is providing the unity of the one body. The oneness of the Spirit is evident in the guidance of the Spirit and in the teaching of the Spirit. The Godhead is unifying the body through the indwelling guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Each individual Christians has the Spirit dwelling in him or her. The collective body of Christians has the Spirit dwelling in it. We who are a part of the body of Christ do not have Spirits that differ. When wars of disagreements rise up among us, they are not the work of the Spirit. When a brother goes against brother or sister against sister, then the Holy Spirit has been quenched as He would never be a part of divisive behavior.

The Spirit of God is a Spirit of peace. It is a Spirit of harmony. When the Spirit is allowed to rule our heart as individuals, then he also will rule the heart of the body as it serves the head. It is obvious, isn’t it that such rule in the church will produce peace and harmony.

When you find a body of believers who are working and worshiping in peace and harmony, you can be sure that they are being led by the Spirit of God.  On the contrary, when you find a body of believers who are fussing and fighting and people are wanting their own way you can be sure that the Holy Spirit is not being allowed to guide that group.

The church is to be the light of the world, a city set on a hill. The church is to present Jesus to the lost. None of these is possible if the church possesses two Spirits. Where there are fighting and strife, the Spirit of God is not the cause. These things are not the nature nor the product of the Spirit. Avoid such churches.

Seek the One Spirit who lives in the One Body. There you will find unity in peace and love.
