“I’m standing on the solid rock,”

What a great old song. When I was singing bass with the Chipola River Boys this was one of my favorite songs. Today, with all kinds of bad weather reports for a good part of the states, and especially the south and Alabama this song came to mind. “I’m standing on the rock of ages, safe from every storm that rages.”

What storm is raging in your life today? Lost your job? In poor health? Facing a divorce? A child in trouble? Lost a mate through death? Nearing financial collapse? Depressed with life? Relationship not working out? The list could go on and on. None of us are immune to the storms of life. What can we do?

We can stand on the solid rock. No storm can disturb this rock and no power can move it. Whatever the raging wind brings it cannot prevail against this rock. It has stood the test of time. Even the very gates of hell cannot affect it. All other rocks are but sinking sand. The storms will wash them away.

Are you standing on the rock of ages? If so, you will survey the present storms. You will prevail over every travail. The safe¬†place in any storm, the one true shelter from the winds of evil is on the rock. Look at your storm and say, “I’m standing on the solid rock. You cannot hurt me storm, I’m standing on the rock of ages, safe from every storm that rages.”

When the disciples were on the stormy sea Jesus came to them and said, “Don’t be afraid.” He says the same thing to us in the midst of life storms. And he adds as well, “I am with you for your life.”
