Chapter 2, Verse 15 “…by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,”

The Law was for the Jews. It separated them from the rest of the world. The Jews were God’s chosen people and the Law kept the rest of the world from being a part of the chosen people. God wanted all the world to be united in Him. To do that, the cause of the separation had to be removed. The Law had to go. How could that be done?

It could be done by fulfilling it and that is what Jesus did. He fulfilled the Law thus abolishing it forever. The Jewish Law as revealed in the Old Testament is no longer in effect. To please God, no one has to observe its rules and regulations. That means all the additions that the Jews made to the Law as well. That Law was a covenant between Jews and God. God now has a new covenant that is between Him and all who are His people, whether Jew or Gentile.

The Law is sometimes referred to as the enmity and that enmity was abolished in the flesh, i.e., the death of Jesus on the cross. This allowed a new covenant which Jesus said was in His blood. The peace here is not so much the peace between Jew and Gentile as it is between man and God. God, through Jesus and a new covenant, is making peace with all mankind. He still loves the Jews and He still loves the Gentiles. God through Christ is saving all of them who will accept His gift of grace.

The only Law now in force is the law of love. Love God, love Jesus, and love others. Love is the basis of the New Covenant purchased by the blood of the Lamb.

Task for Today: If you have been trying to keep the Law or a Law, other than the law of love, stop immediately. Jesus nailed the Law given through Moses to the cross. He abolished that Law in His flesh. Instead, become a part of the New Covenant purchased with that blood. Enter the covenant of peace. Peace created by love.
