The Holy Spirit and God, the Same
Passages such as Psalm 139:7, “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?” let us know that The Holy Spirit and God are one and the same. We see this same idea at the very beginning of the Bible, in Genesis 1:1 we are introduced to God as creator and immediately learn that the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
God communicated to the world through the Holy Spirit. This was God’s comment on contending with man (Gen. 6:3). God inspired leaders and prophets, speaking to them through the Holy Spirit. David tells us, “The Spirit of the Lord speaks by me; his word is on my tongue.” (2 Samuel 23:2)
Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1). God created and maintains the world through the work of the Spirit and the Word. Beautiful. We refer to these three views of God as the Godhead. We may not totally understand it but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. The evidence is even stronger in the New Testament where we see the work of the Holy Spirit in the church much more vividly.
Task for Today: The three-in-one operate in unity to accomplish their will. The Bible gives us a glimpse of how that works. Learn to think of each one as God and thus as God united.
