The Second Servant Song
Isaiah 49:1 “…The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name.”
Isaiah 49:1-6 is a prophetic speech delivered by the Servant himself. The Servant assures us he was called by God before his birth. He will be a sharp sword and a polished arrow, a decisive and plain message of salvation. While there is a moment of failure in the goal of restoring Israel there is the joyous message that that restoration is a small thing when compared to the calling of the entire world.
The Servant will be a light to the nations (Gentiles) thus bringing salvation to the very ends of the earth. This makes the second Servant Song important because it shifts the Servants goal from national restoration to global restoration.
Task for Today: Praise God that the Servant has been sent to you as a Gentile. His coming assures you an opportunity to receive the grace of God. Thank you God for such a wonderful and seemingly impossible gift.
