Chapter 4, Verse 10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
I don’t think there is much doubt that James is speaking of spiritual things rather than worldly things. James is reflecting on his quote of Proverbs 3:34 in verse six. As was mentioned in that verse it is in our admission of spiritual poverty that God’s grace becomes abundant. We can do nothing to save ourselves and once we totally understand that we open up an avenue for God to do the saving.
Like so many thousands before us we must get on bended knees (hearts) and confess our helplessness. We must say, “I cannot do anything to save myself. It is all up to God.” Once I understand that, God is able to exalt me.
Task for Today: Get down on your spiritual knees. Confess to God your sinfulness and your helplessness to change that. He alone holds the power to forgive and because of His grace He is willing to do that if we surrender all to Him.
